The green corridors

India

Due to the country’s population explosion, economic revolution, climate change, poaching and lax enforcement of environmental policies, India is currently facing a growing Human-Animal conflict, blocking the wildlife movements, including several species that are threatened with extinction. To resolve this problem, the Indian government has set up an elephant corridor project.

What is a green corridor?

Sometimes the animal habitat is fragmented. The causes of these fragmentations are obviously human. This can be due to the creation of roads, deforestation, … etc.

These habitat fragments are not always connected, causing the separation of individuals from the same herd and also problems for individuals who are no longer able to reach resources necessary for their survival.

A corridor is a path allowing the connection of fragments of wild territories, while avoiding disturbances.
